Pro Bono Week is a global celebration that takes place every year during the last week of October. It celebrates the pro bono ethic across the professions that use their talents to make a positive difference in local communities around the world. Every year, thousands of people volunteer their professional expertise in marketing, legal services, HR, strategy and IT to support nonprofits.
This year is the first time for Ukraine to join the initiative and engage Ukrainian companies. During 22-28th of October, 30 experts from 23 companies invested 74 hours of their work time to deliver 8 workshops and lectures and 34 individual consultations to more than 250 people from 150 NGOs.
Majority of Ukrainian NGOs have not enough skills in communications, PR, HR, finance, or strategy development to run their activities for 100% efficiently. Also, they are not able to generate incomes enough to cover professional services all the time. So, investment of professional, practical knowledge, is a sustainable way to support NGOs in their desire to solve social issues.
It’s the first time in Ukraine that 23 companies invest their knowledge for free into third sector development simultaneously. Before, knowledge sharing was happening randomly and based on personal relations of NGO leader and expert. Also, only traditional CSR was popular in Ukraine till now, and companies and NGOs just start looking for other options of collaboration, like pro bono services.
