Description of the project

In 2017, Auchan for Youth Foundation allocated a grant to the project of supported employment for young people with Down Syndrome, launched by Auchan Retail Ukraine and NGO Down Syndrome. The project included:

  • October-November 2017: selection of coordinator, counselor and psychologist (implication of expert NGO «Emmaus» (from Lviv) for different trainings provided to members of NGO Down Syndrome
  • December 2017-February 2018: preparatory and explanation work for stuff from Auchan and also young people and their parents (trainings and seminars)
  • February-October 2018: work with candidates with Down Syndrome: recruitment, employment prep, employment procedure and assistance to enhance their standing inside the tea

Today, 4 people with Down Syndrome are employed by Auchan Ukraine within the project and 1 person is employed beyond the project, on her own initiative.

People with Down Syndrome are considered unable to work in Ukraine. We are the example that prove the contrary. Employment for people with disabilities, especially with Down Syndrome, in Ukraine. It is a working model of social assistance for persons with disabilities at work.
